Tips for Buying Lingerie for Your Lover

When wandering about the web you’ll often find articles for men on how to buy lingerie for their wives or girlfriends. However, you don’t often see how to articles for women on how to do the same for their partners. The fact of the matter is that it doesn’t matter what your sexual orientation is, buying lingerie can often be an intimidating and scary task for the lover who’s purchasing the items. Most articles have common themes involved in the tips, and while we might address some of those here, we will be adding a new one that is rarely seen – talking to your partner about what they like.

One of the main tips that you’ll see everywhere and is worth relating here is to ensure that you get the right size for your partner. Now, some women know their size when it comes to negligees, bodystockings, stockings, garters, and the like. Where trouble starts is with bras and corsets.

A lot of women have no idea what their actual bra size is, even though they think they do. Rather than relying on what she’s got in her drawer to determine the size from the tags, especially if you’ve ever heard her complain regularly about her bra not fitting right, then she needs to be measured properly.

While you might not want to affront her with measurements, telling her that you’re going to be buying her some lingerie and you want to be sure what her size is might work for you. If you’re unsure of how to measure for a bra, and your lover is absolutely refusing to see a bra fitter so you can get the right size, then have a look at our Bra Measuring 101 article (there’s too much to put here). That’s tip number one – know her size! Tip number two is, of course, know her tastes.

Knowing your partner’s tastes isn’t as easy as looking in her collection to see what she’s got like most how to articles will advise. It is often said that if your girlfriend likes to wear track pants and tank tops that she’s not going to probably like something like a corset, but this can be misleading advice. Just because a woman likes her comfort, it doesn’t mean that she doesn’t like dressing up, too. While going through her existing lingerie to get some ideas isn’t a bad idea, the best one is to actually discuss with her what she likes.

While her lingerie might consist mostly of simple bras and panties, if you don’t actually ask her what she wants, you’ll never know if she’s been secretly lusting after a corset and garters and hasn’t been able to afford them. Maybe she’d love to entertain you in a sexy negligee and hasn’t bought those for the same reason?

Keep in mind that women on a budget can get some cute and simple bras and panties at any department store for under $20 and sometimes they can get several of each item for that price. These are really the only two tips you need when buying your lover lingerie – get into conversations with her about what she likes and what you like and where you can meet in the middle, and get the proper measurements!
